How safe is this?

Participant safety is one of our main priorities! We use special lanterns that have been treated to be flame retardant. There will be fire personnel and medical personnel present at the event. There will be open flames at the event, so watch out for your baggy sleeves and long hair! Also, be sure to obey all directions given by Light The Sky staff, as well as any emergency services personnel present at our event.

Where do the lanterns go after we launch them?

Just as the lanterns float gently up into the sky, they will gently float back to the earth (once the flame has burnt out). Our staff will be there to begin cleaning up!

Who cleans them up?

We do! Light the Sky™ has a wonderful cleaning crew at all of our events. They work through the night, and the next day once the sun has come out, to make sure we pick up after ourselves. Their motto is "No lantern left behind!" We visit a lot of communities across the country, and are grateful for the opportunity to do so! If we don't do a good job, we won't be invited back, and we want to come back! Light The Sky is committed to being a good neighbor, and we will do all we can to ensure we leave every place we visit better than we found it. 

How much money really goes to USA for UNHCR?

10% of all ticket sales are donated to USA for UNHCR, the United Nations' Refugee Agency. That's 10% before any taxes or expenses. If you buy 2 $40 tickets, $8 goes directly to them. Incidentally, $8 can buy and deliver a mosquito net to an African refugee. That mosquito net can help prevent the spread of malaria. Over a million people die from malaria annually, and most of them are kids under five. According to UNICEF*, 90% of those cases happen in Africa. What time should I get there?

We generally launch the lanterns 20-30 minutes after sunset (we might wait a bit longer for the wind to die down), but we recommend you are there at least 1 hour before sunset. You can get a spot closer to the stage, and enjoy some wonderful music. The earlier you come, the more you'll avoid the traffic! Also, please carpool!

What can I do before the lantern launch?

This event means different things to different people, so there is no agenda or program to follow before sunset. Just come early and enjoy the time spent with friends and loved ones. Maybe you'll meet some new friends!

We will have live music, and local food vendors at all of our events. We’ll also have a few surprises up our sleeve, so come early!

Do I need a ticket?

Yes, every participant needs a ticket, even if you just want to watch. If you buy a General Admission ticket, you will also get a lantern, markers to decorate your lantern, and a glow-in-the-dark bracelet. You will receive a confirmation email for your purchase. It will have a QR code that we will scan to check you in. You can print it, or you could save the paper and show it to us on your phone!

Can I bring my kids?

Of course! Anyone 5 and under is FREE. Anyone 6-12 can purchase a discounted ticket, which only includes admission and a bracelet . 

What happens if it rains/hails/tornados/hurricanes?

We really hope it doesn't! This is definitely a weather dependent event, and there are some things that we just can't control. If the weather turns nasty, we may have to postpone our event. Keep an eye on our website and the Facebook Event Page for up-to-the-minute details! We reserve the right to cancel an event if we feel that weather or other conditions may lead to a dangerous situation either for our participants or the surrounding environment.

Can I get a refund?

All sales are final and tickets are not refundable. In the event of a weather cancellation, we'll do our best to reschedule.

When are you coming to MY city?

If we don't have an event open in your city just yet, be sure to join the email list for your city! That way you'll be the first to know when we're coming, AND you'll be sure to get access to the discounted Early Bird tickets!
